Postcards? Never heard. Razglednice? Nikad čuli.

The idea came to me in a PET prep class when we were working on a writing assignment to write a postcard to a friend to practice for the writing exam. I asked the class “who has sent a postcard before?” no one. I then asked, “has anyone ever received a postcard?” no. “Has anyone sent or received anything in the post?” no. I realized it would be difficult to get them excited about writing postcards if it wasn’t a part of their life at all.

So I asked my friends, and family to send a postcard addressed to my students from wherever they lived. First I thought I would get them just from English speaking countries, but then the idea grew to asking my friends all over the world. Then someone told me about a website for exchanging postcards, postcrossing.com which gave me access to trade postcards from Montenegro with almost every country in the world.

So far we have received   51 postcards from 45 countries, with many more on the way! I use them in class for many purposes. They can be used for vocabulary, geography, and cultural lessons as well as grammar points like comparative, superlative, and choosing the right tenses. The students also write their own postcards to people all over the world, from Brazil to Madagascar!

The students have responded well to the postcards, and with more coming each week, we will continue to use them in class. Is there any country you would like me to try to get a postcard from? 

Where the postcards came from

Na ovu ideju sam došla radeći sa grupom koja se priprema za ispit PET, i to dok smo se pripremali za pismeni dio ispita. Zadatak je bio da se napiše  razglednica prijatelju. Pitala sam učenike "Ko je nekad poslao razglednicu?" - niko. Zatim sam pitala "Je li neko nekad dobio razglednicu?"  -ne. "Je li neko nekad poslao ili primio poštansku pošiljku?" - nije. Shvatila sam da će biti teško probuditi njihovo zanimanje za razglednice budući da uopšte nemaju iskustvo te vrste.

Tako sam zamolila prijatelje i porodicu da pošalju razglednice mojim đacima sa raznih strana svijeta gdje žive. Ispočetka sam mislila da će nam stići samo sa engleskog govornog područja, ali došla sam na ideju da zamolim prijatelje širom svijeta.  Onda mi je neko ispričao o vebsajtu za razmjenu razglednica, postcrossing.com koji mi je omogućio da razmjenjujem razglednice sa gotovo svim zemljama svijeta.

Do sada smo dobili 51 razglednicu iz 45 zemalja, a mnoge su na putu ovamo! U nastavi ih koristim na mnogo načina. Mogu se upotrebiti za učenje vokabulara, geografije, kultoroloških tema, kao i gramatike: komparativa, superlativa, glagolskih vremena. Naši učenici sada pišu svoje razglednice ljudima širom svijeta, od Brazila do Madagaskara!

Što se tiče reakcije učenika na projekat razglednice, ona je pozitivna. Svake nedjelje nam ih dolazi sve više - nastavićemo ih koristiti u nastavi. Iz koje zemlje biste željeli razglednicu?
